International education module of the MBA Extractive Industries Programme in Total (France)

Learners of the MBA Extractive Industries Programme have visited France to familiarize themselves with the best world practices in petroleum, oil refining, innovation management and new technologies. The structure of the practical module at the enterprises of Total (France) was presented as follows:

  • Introductory lecture on "Production Management of oil Company", meeting with the management of Total le Havre. Q&A Session;
  • Introduction to the production process of the oil company, a tour of the production platform - oil refinery plant;
  • lecture and business case on "oil company logistics" discipline;
  • presentation of the "oil company Total development strategy", meeting with the management of the Total Russia company. Educational Unit "Innovation management in the oil company". Round table. Q&A Session;

Total is a French oil and gas company, the fourth largest refinery in the world after the Royal Dutch Shell, BP and ExxonMobil. Its headquarters are located in Paris. The company occupies sixth place on the Fortune Global 500. The company conducts operations in more than 130 countries in the world; The company hired 111 000 employees. Oil and gas production reaches 2.6 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (about 130 million tonnes per year), reserves are valued at 11.1 billion barrels of oil equivalent (about 1.5 billion tonnes). In addition to mining, the company operates refineries and owns a network of fuel filling stations, a number of chemical industry enterprises as well as in other industries, including the field of alternative energy.

A meeting of the MBA group with Olivier Vaquie-Vice president for oil exploration, development and production in continental Europe, Central Asia and Russia was held at the main office in Paris, and introduced the participants to the company's development strategy and its new projects. The information on development of the company's innovative technologies, particularly in the area of renewable energy, provided Laurent Atchekguezian, vice president for Strategic development (Direction Renewables). A constructive dialogue took place, and a Q&A session was held. The director of the Total Russia, Total Vostok Mikhail Golovchenko also attended the meeting and made a presentation.

The introductory lecture "Production Management of oil company" was presented by the responsible for development of the West/Conversion-Yannick Pennamen. On the production platform of Total in Havre, the Director General Jean-Yves Durieux introduced the learners to the specifics of Total, and then followed by the company's leading engineer, Aurelie Goepfer, organized a tour of the production platform itself. The learners were able to learn about the implementation of the refining technology in practice.

The Higher School of Business KFU has many years of experience in organizing visiting education programmes to European countries and the USA for MBA learners. A visiting module of the MBA Extractive Industries Programme is organized jointly with the Higher School of Business partner, the Normandy School of Management EM Normandie.

The Normandy School of Management is one of the oldest French business schools (founded in 1871), its campuses are located in Paris, Caen, Havre, Oxford. It's been accredited internationally: AACSB, EPAS Accredited, French Ministry of education. Is a member of  "Conférence des grandes Ecoles", EMBS, EFMD.

At the EM Normandie, a group of learners have met the Director general of the school, Mr. Jean-Guy Bernard. In his welcoming address, he thanked the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry for facilitating the Organization of this programme of the MBA group from the Republic of Tatarstan. Mr. Jean-Guy Bernard drew attention to the many years of promising cooperation between Kazan and Norman business schools, and thanked Alsu Akhmetshina for the development of this cooperation. The School of Management of Normandy EM Normandie organized lectures, business case and Q&A sessions on the "Oil Company Logistics" (Lecturer - Patrick RIGOT-MULLER).
